Pollen Allergies

Dealing With Pollen Allergies and Their Various Forms

One of the most common allergies in rural areas is pollen allergies. The allergy symptoms that can be associated with this range from slightly annoying, to extremely disruptive. There are many preventative measures that you can take ahead of time to deal with these symptoms. You can also seek out treatment if preventative measures don’t work.

Pollen allergies are triggered when the plants and trees begin their reproduction cycles. Most flowers and some trees begin pollination in the spring time. When this occurs insects are driven to find nectar and in doing so collect pollen on their bodies. They then fly around and any additional flowers they touch become pollinated and begin seed production.

Unfortunately sometimes the pollen count in the atmosphere can get too high and begin causing people problems. The most common allergy symptoms triggered by this can be anything from a running nose, to severe respiratory distress and asthma allergies. The severity of these symptoms depends on how sensitive the individual is, and how high the pollen count is. If the count is too high it’s recommended you stay indoors.

While most people hate to be cooped up indoors during the spring and summer months it’s sometimes necessary. Although most people can deal with the problem some people have such a severe reaction to pollen allergies that it can be life threatening. These individuals are few and far between but their allergy symptoms are some of the most severe. These can range from the severe respiratory distress that we mentioned, to closing of the throat, or interference with blood pressure.

In these extreme cases medication is a must to prevent severe injury. Air conditioning and air filters can keep most allergies out of the home so you can rest easy there. Fortunately pollen allergies only occur during the spring and summer months. During the winter common allergy symptoms will be reduced due to the cooler air moving in, and plants not producing pollen.

The medications can vary in form and strength and should only be taken in severe cases. Some people can get by with just a runny nose and have no trouble. Others have watery eyes, and severe coughing that interferes with their day to day routines. Sometimes you have to go outside during these periods and taking medicine before hand can keep you from suffering for a while.

Many news agencies will include allergy reports in their weather reports to advise sensitive people of when to stay indoors and when it’s safe to go out. Typically the worst times are in the middle of the day when it is at its hottest. The early mornings and evenings however are much less severe. This is the time most people choose to do their yard work anyway.

So when dealing with pollen allergies it’s best to remember to take preventative measures. If you’re expecting a bad day stay in doors till the pollen count settles down. If you have to go out take medication about 20 minutes before leaving the house. Remember to always check the news during the summer for updates, and if you have severe allergy symptoms be sure to consult your doctor before spring and summer hit.
